The Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center (formerly the Dallas Memorial Auditorium and prior to that the Dallas Convention Center) is a convention center in the Convention Center District of downtown Dallas, Texas. The original Dallas Memorial Auditorium was designed by George Dahl in 1957. The center spans over 2000000 square feet (190000 m²), with exhibition space exceeding 1000000 square feet (93000 m²). The largest exhibit hall measures 726726 square feet (67515 m²). Within the center, a 203000 square feet (18900 m²) column-free exhibition hall is the largest of its kind in the United States, used annually for the Dallas Auto Show.
The eastern side of the building incorporates elements of the original Dallas Memorial Auditorium, a 9816-seat arena. The complex also includes a 1740-seat theater, 105 meeting rooms, and two large ballrooms. In terms of accessibility, the world's largest heliport/vertical port sits atop the structure, with docks for 75 truck berths. At the southern end of the complex, the Dallas CBD Vertiport features two 60 x 60 feet (18 x 18 m) concrete helicopter decks and a 169000 square feet (15700 m²) flight deck capable of handling tiltrotors. In May 2009, voters approved the construction of the Dallas Convention Center Hotel, a 1000-room hotel attached to the convention center.
